Types of Steel Materials

Steel is the base of heavy equipment, household items, and tools. It plays an important role in construction and manufacturing. However there are a variety of steels that are created equal; the kind of steel you select for your project can drastically affect its strength and endurance.

Although all steels begin as carbon and iron The quantity of impurities as well as the additions determine the way in which each type is classified. This is what makes every kind unique for a specific use.

Low-carbon steels are among the most frequently used steel used by metal fabricators, and come in a variety of forms. They are found in beams, pipes and other structural elements. They’re also great for welding fabrications as they can be easily shaped and formed without losing its strength or quality.

The medium-carbon steels are famous as being extremely hard and contain a carbon content less than 1.75%. They are the best choice for cookware and durable tools. They’re also employed to create parts for cars and other mechanical equipment.

High-carbon steels are utilized in parts that require high strength and corrosion resistance. These include anchor bolts, rods and tools.

Alloy steels have a wide variety of properties that can be modified to meet the requirements of each use. For instance, tungsten can increase the temperature strength and wear resistance of high-strength steels. Chromium improves ductility of stainless steels, and also increases their resistance to heat. Molybdenum on however, increases the toughness and hardness of alloy steels.
